The High Voltage International Annual conference was instituted in 2002 in Lira-Northern Uganda as a non-denominational festival to address the spiritual, psychosocial, and physical needs of the conflict affected residents of northern Uganda. Since then, the Conference participation has shot up from a mere 2000 to 7000.
Goal: Improved wellbeing of conflict affected residents of northern Uganda.
Objectives:
1. To re awaken the Church that had been embattled, and nearly wiped by the 23 years long rebel war in N.Uganda.
2. To improve the spiritual wellbeing of residents via preaching, and teaching the Word of God.
3. To improve psychosocial wellbeing of residents via counselling, peer support and workshops.
4. To support safe and sustainable return of IDPs via community outreaches and sensitization.
5. To improve household health and income status of residents via integrated projects.
Activities:
1. Jesus March: It the custom of High Voltage to conduct Jesus march in the streets of the town on the first day of the conference. Jesus march capitalizes on the main theme of the conference and is useful for mobilization and awareness raising leaving the town saturated with the message of the conference. Hundreds of residents and visitors are mobilized to participate in the conference via Jesus March.
2. Teaching God’s Word: Gospel ministers with various backgrounds, gifts and anointing are invited from USA, UK, Ghana, Burundi, Kenya, Zambia and Uganda. They take turns teaching the conference participants with biblical principles of life including Christian Ministry, family, child upbringing, community support, business, health, education, child protection, poverty eradication, peace and reconciliation.
3. Workshops: Workshops are conducted each day for one hour; participants are divided into working groups including children, youth, married, widows, church leaders, local leaders. Workshops have proved over the years to be one of the most effective avenues for reaching conference participants at close range.
4. Counselling: Professional and experienced counsellors are available during the course of the conference for ongoing consultation, counselling and peer support.
5. Praise Sessions: Experienced, well groomed, tested choir leads the congregation is energizing praise, dance and singing sessions. This provides opportunity for participants to release their pains, doubts, fears and frustrations to God. Over the years participants have received healing and restoration in praise sessions.
6. Song Presentations: Special songs are prepared and presented to participants in spirited fashion, once each day by selected artist/choir. The songs contain various messages including peace and reconciliation, hope and restoration, HIV/AIDs prevention and childcare and protection.
7. Prayers and Intercessions: Conference leaders take moments to lead the participants to God via prayers in accordance with God’s word. Participants to tell God about their frustrations and seek his intervention. Deliverance sessions are conducted under the unction of the Holy Spirit.
8. Testimonies/Success Stories: Each day one or two conference participants share the outcomes of the conference teaching, preaching and workshops. This provides a role model for other participants undergoing similar circumstances, to persist without giving-up their hope.
Successes:
· Each year, we register close to 100 people turning their lives to Christ, Muslims inclusive
· There have been testimonies of healings from lunacy, barrenness, family breakdown, and other diseases.
· Servants of God who abandoned their Ministries resumed their services with greater and more determined zeal
· Young Ministries groomed have started thriving Ministries of their own, while some participants have started similar conferences in different parts of the Country
