INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND:

 

Christian Communication Centre  is a Christian (Para Church) NGO operating in Northern Uganda with a goal to release God’s people from the bondage of Poverty, Ignorance, Disease, and Sin through a holistic development approach.

 

The organization was started in 1998, at a time that Northern Uganda faced civil turbulence and registered with the National NGO Board in 2003.  It was set up to provide alternative and effective means of releasing people from the bondage of poverty, ignorance, sin and disease caused by the civil war.

 

The organization is currently operating in coordination  with the Office of the Prime Minister, Disaster Management Department. Deliverance from poverty, disease, ignorance and sin is our mindset, advocacy is our means, the holistic transformational gospel of Jesus Christ is our process, and partnership is our methodology.

 

We  place great value on spiritual, physical, socio-emotional, and cognitive/ mental development to make a whole Christian.

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

The objectives of the organization is work with or alongside  Evangelical Associations, Churches and the communities in Uganda, and particularly:

To proclaim /dispense with the Gospel, as acceptable in evangelical circles.

To  co-plant, promote and assist Churches in all areas of Uganda.

To promote a holistic practice of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

To set up or otherwise acquire and operate institutions geared at training Christians, Church leaders and pastors in ministry skills.

To promote co-operation between Churches in Uganda and other Christian missionary organizations.

To initiate and organize seminars, conferences, prayers, Bible studies, fellowships, workshops, and any other activity to promotes the total development of a Christian. 

To and assist the needy by mobilising assistance and establishing activities/ projects for their benefit.

 

VISION, MISSION STATEMENT, PRINCIPLES AND CORE VALUES:

 

Vision:

In response to the Great commission, our vision is to transform the lives of those who have lost hope or distressed with the gospel of Christ through spiritual, physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional outreach and transformational development programs.

 

Mission Statement:

Is a Christian Non-Governmental organization (NGO) whose mandate is to reach the desperate with a holistic saving grace of God and equip them for effective holistic development. The organization places high value to the spiritual, physical, socio-emotional and cognitive well-being/ development to make a whole Christian.

 

CORE PROGRAM AREAS:

Following are just a few of the transformational development programs that help us toward that visionary goal:-

CHILD DEVELOPMENT:

-     Restoration of the community social systems by strengthening the child  protection and coping mechanisms by positive parenting and social networks, medical checkups, education of orphans and other vulnerable children, school supplies, new skills development, educating youth about HIV/AIDS.

-     This will be achieved through establishment of home based care educational facility for pre school, primary, secondary and vocational skills development.

CHURCH EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:

 

-     Holistic Discipleship (mind, spirit/soul and body) and In Service Leadership Training (circles of participatory personal, family and community transformation, leadership and development) of pastors and other leaders, providing training methods and materials, collaborating with Churches to help them reach out to their communities with the transforming love of God in Jesus Christ.

-     A Christian FM radio station will be installed in Lira for community outreach to cover tribes in and surrounding districts of Northern Uganda.

  ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

-     Resource Development  to enhance rural development through micro-enterprise groups to increase the ability of the poor to raise incomes and the quality of their life by provision of seed money which will revolve to bless others in return.

 

-     Natural resource management  (promoting forestry, soil conservation and water conservation) to promote sustainable use and management of natural resources by developing a land use and management policy and promoting of environmentally friendly technologies.

 

-     Vocational skills development training for young adults with special consideration to child mothers due to early or forced pregnancies.

AGRICULTURAL, FOOD SECURITY:

-     Replication of  new farming technologies to increase agricultural production of community households , training them in better farming methods in collaboration with government agricultural extension workers, post harvest handling and networking for marketing of farm products.

HEALTH:

-     Addressing issues of  malnutrition and illness (HIV/AIDS issues, positive living, trauma handling and referrals), poor sanitation practices (water, sanitation, and community health - hygiene), provision of health facility, training and development of local health-care representatives.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND SUCCESS STORY:

Christian Communication Centre has implemented the following projects/programs since its inception in 1998:

i)          2000/2001 carried out peace building and reconciliation programs in schools, colleges, institutions in Lira district with funding from Lira District Local Government.

 

ii)         2002/2003 established child development and rehabilitation school registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports in the name of Standard High School for secondary school education in Lira with funding from Cord Aid Netherlands and handed over the community for further management.

iii)        2003/2004 resettled 102 families whose houses was burnt by the

Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Lira Municipality by putting back houses and replacing burnt household items (saucepans, plates, cups, basins, jerricans, blankets and mattresses) with funding from ACTS Netherlands.

iii)        2005-2007 have been providing emergency relief support to Internally Displaced Peoples living in camps in Lira by giving relief foods and Psychosocial and Educational support to 300 selected war affected/disadvantaged children with their host families by provision of scholastic materials (books, pens, pencils, uniform and school bag) and food supplement and income generating skills training support to host families with funding from Global Ministries (ACTS & ICCO Netherlands).

 

iv)        2008 purchase over 11 acres of ground in Barlonyo with funding donated by Missions with Africa, Inc. to begin community restoration project, with intent to build King of Glory Chapel and Community Center, Orphanage facility, Educational facility, Deep well, and Micro-banking projects
